Hello everyone! Well, I am very happy to report that we have received some funding the center. We plan to use this budget to purchase CDs, DVDs and manga as well as some French and German materials.
On Tuesday, after learning of the budget, I emailed the SAC staff asking them if they had any ideas. Last night, staff and I went through the results of a questionnaire I conducted during the Foreign Language Communication placement test to see what students (270 altogether) would like to have in the center. After careful consideration, we came up with the following tentative list:
Movies
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Home Alone
Armageddon
Alice in Wonderland
Twilight
Titanic
Devil Wears Prada
Toy Story
Sherlock Holmes
ET
Beauty and the Beast
Snow White
Lilo and Stitch
The Lion King
Peter Pan
Music
Aerosmith
Lady Gaga
Carpenters
Michael Jackson
Taylor Swift
Queen
Simon and Garfunkel
Manga (5 books per series)
Naruto
Full Metal Alchemist
Slam Dunk
Chibi Marukochan
Deathnote
I have also contacted the German professor asking for his recommendations regarding German proficiency test materials and conversational textbooks and have started looking for similar things in French. Finally, with the remainder, we are considering purchasing some extra TOEIC, TOEFL and IELTS resources. I hope to have the list ready by Wednesday.
It should be noted that while this budget cannot be used for the heater and board games that decided on ordering for the center in our meeting last week, there will be funding available for those items.
Finally, I will be leaving tomorrow for Nagoya and the JALT conference where I will be presenting with the JASAL. I will talk about my experience in the next post. Wish me luck!
